Watch the early series, it captures the point of Mr. Bean a lot better i.e. empathetically, so it's not as "degrading" as you see in the films and other mainstream appearances of the character...

I have had the misfortune to see a few episodes from the first series actually. I was about 10. Out of curiosity, what would you say would be the target demographic?
I just fail to appreciate Mr.Bean as it lacks subtlety and appeals to the most moronic of people eg. "go Bean rape em on the dancefloor lol" and "hhahahahahahahahahahahahahaha its gay and funny"..

Okay, I agree the target demographic is far more low brow than Blackadder for example, but to me it appealed as a social commentary on single middle-aged men of the time which is somewhat overlooked by a focus on his apparent handicaps.
I think it's very good pysical comedy and he's very talented both with his face and his body... modern comedy can be verbally clever, but almost always relies on language rather than traditional slapstick.
I think Mr. Bean has its merits :)
